return flow pressure problems

I just set up my tank today and everything works great except for the return flow pressure. I have a mag drive 7 and it is split to go to three returns in the tank. None of the returns in the tank have much pressure. Is my pump too small or are the 5/8" id lines that I was using the problem. I have a 55 gal tank with a 30 gal sump that holds about 10 gal while operating. Any help or ideas would be appreciated.

Re: return flow pressure problems

Nate,

You have them "Y"ed which will split your pressure. Do you have any other T's or 90's with it. You will also loose a ton of head pressure also. Then the distance from your pump to your tanks will also increase the head pressure loss.
You can always dial a pump back but can't kick it in the butt to make more flow. Depending on all of the plumbing I would over rate the pump and Ball valve it to control the amount of flow desired in the tank. Hope this helps. Let us know the outcome.

Re: return flow pressure problems

Thanks for the reply, I decided to move up to a mag drive 12. I figure this will help with the flow issue. Off to look for my new pump.

Re: return flow pressure problems

Great Idea Nate. You can always dial it back. Good luck and if you need anything give us a shout.
