Question Tired of my Mag pump need suggestions

I'm tired of my Mag 18 not restarting. If the power cuts or if I take it off to clean it doesn't want to restart without getting the impeller started spinning under water. This annoys me to no end. I'm looking for suggestions on other pump options. I could do external and would rather do this but I can't do it inline via a bulkhead because of the way my sump is situated in the stand. It would have to pull water from the sump below it and push it up to the display from there. There is a shelf above and to the right of the sump I could fix the pump to. I don't know which pumps will do this if any. I have considered going with a GenX internal but haven't found too much about them. The GenX pumps get good reviews but these are usually external. I am looking to fix this problem as soon as possible. What do you guys think?

Re: Tired of my Mag pump need suggestions

As far as external pumps, I really like Blue Line and Iwaki, my friend has a Gen-X, and it works well for him too. However, I don't think any of those pumps will pull water up to themselves.

Does Eheim make a big pump for internal?

Re: Tired of my Mag pump need suggestions

Have you looked at the sedra internal pumps? They are reasonally priced and well built. I have a sedra 12000 on my pm bullet skimmer that has been absolutely great. On your mag pump, how does the magnet on the impeller look? Maybe its just time for a new one. That would be the most cost efficient way to go of course!
