I don't know if anyone has a filter similar to this one, but I want to know if this filter needs any additonal items for setup. I am using it for a 30 gallon tank and I have a 160 gph powerhead, so, I don't know if this filter uses a powerhead and if this powerhead is adequate...Please help clear this up for me. Thank you. Are you just using this filter for carbon to supplement protein skimming? I think your powerhead you have will be plenty for that filter. You don't need too much flow for carbon/phosban.

I have a 60 gallon protein skimmer, so it does connect to a powerhead?

Actually on second look, it says it has slip fittings for pvc,Inlet/Outlet: 1" Slip, 1 1/4" Slip. It seems this filter is to pe plumbed in. Its possible to hook it up to a powerhead, but I would recommend a phosban reactor instead of this filter. It would be easier to hook up a powerhead to, and cheaper. Especially if its for running carbon. And that filter is probably overkill for a 30 gal. tank IMO. I hope this helps!

That filter is designed for more flow than a power head can typically make, and is an externally plumbed filter for hooking up through a pump.
