any good books?

Just getting back into reefing after a 8 year service In the Army and would like any recommendations on good updated books? I tried my LFS around me and get mixed information and more of "Just buy my merchandise" talk.

I would like info about lighting wave lengths to water parameters, you know the science of it.

Thanks for any help.

Re: any good books?

P.R. Escobar's book on "Aquatic Systems Engineering" if you want some to analyze the dynamics of it all....this is your book

Try to get it on ebay or amazon used.

My fav authors are:
Anthony Calfo
John Tullock (book natural aquariums)
Martin Moe The Marine Aquarium Reference(great book for the science part...oldskewl but still good as gold!)
Eric Borneman

Re: any good books?

My favorite book on corals and reefkeeping in general is Eric Borneman's Aquarium Corals. It does not cover setting up the system. My favorite book for an explanation of the basics of setting up the system would be Fossa & Nilsen's The Modern coral Reef Aquarium, Vol. 1. That's a four-volume series but setup instructions are in volume one.

Delbeek & Sprung have recently released the third volume in their series. It might contain more up-to-date information on setups than the Fossa & Nilsen book, which is older.

Robert Fenner's website is a FREE resource. Daphne Fautin's book on clownfishes and host anemones is available in its entirety FREE online.

Fishbase is a valuable online resource. There are lots more but that should keep you busy for a while.
