    De-stinking after feeding

So I remembered one of the reasons I dislike Mysid shrimp, despite how excellent they are. They smell. They smell awful.

Now, after feeding mysid, or other stinky seafood items I wash my hands and it doens't do anything. My hands will smell funky all day.

Is there anything you guys have found to get the funk off your fingers?

(I apologize if this is in a weird place, I didnt see anywhere else for it to go.)

That's the first time I've ever heard this! :eek3:
You must be using mysis gone bad or something.
I've been feeding mysis for 2 years and I never got stinky ones. As for getting it on your hands... I use a very small plastic strainer to thaw them in and then a quick rince and I dip the strainer in the tank, voila! No fish fingers!

Alright, they don't exactly reek, but they do smell very strongly of fish. And that's not the pleasantest of things to smell like.

Lemon juice might help. I wonder why its on your hands. My mysis comes in cubes and i push it out from the back into the feeding and thawing container. Then feeding more often less amounts is best along with a mix of food like flake and 3 or 4 types of frozen mixing it up and nori for omnivores a few times a week.

    Re: De-stinking after feeding

This morning when it was feeding time I took the time to smell the mysis shrimp and it didn't smell like much, I'm wondering if maybe where you buy your mysis, maybe it has time to defrost, go slightly bad or very bad and then it is just simply refrozn and sold. Just a thought because I've never had them smell enough to notice. But then again, I'm getting old, my nose might be out of order!

Frozen mysis shrimp shouldn't smell overly "fishy" unless they indeed had gone bad, as Louise had indicated already. I by PE Mysis shrimp in 8 oz. flats and always break it apart by hand, never had anything remotely what you describe happen.
    Kind regards,

    Gene.

    Re: De-stinking after feeding

I have a big flat of mysis, and I've been feeding one small fish so I break it up into small chunklets.

In all honesty, it doesn't smell terrible, but I do a decent amount of small scale work that ends up with my hands close to my face, and it gets annoying. Yesterday I just about went mad because my hand smelled like a clam for hours.

get some of that automotive soap that takes off grease... orange gold? orange something... or I'd get a box of latex gloves and use one per feeding.
