    Pumps

Ok, getting ready to replace my HOB Magnum cannister filter with a Hydor Koralia powerhead. The tank is currently a 75 gallon size. I am not only wanting to replace the filter, but also increase flow.

Currently what is on it is as follows

Aqua Clear 70-75 gallon size filter
Bac Pac skimmer (standard size pump)
    Magnum HOB Cannister filter
power head powering a HOB UV

Currently most of the flow is from the back to the front of the tank and that will be changing as I change the aqua clear and the magnums to hydors.

Question is what size of hydor would you recommend?

Hey Anne, I have 2 K3's and that is plenty of flow. I had to adjust them so they wouldn't blow my sand everywhere. I'd get a K3 or maybe a K2 if you don't want too much flow.

    Re: Pumps

Why remove the filters at all? I have an aquaclear 110, 2 K3's, 1 K2, and 2 aquaclear 50's. No the tank isn't set up yet, but I'll be placing them all on timers as to allow flow changes.

In the FW tank I just plopped a aquaclear 110, a magnum HOB filter and a K1. The tank is doing great and the fish love it.

I agree, keep the magnum, you can use it for carbon, and add the pump!

I have a 90 gallon tank, and move close to 3500gph at times, with a DSB, so you won't have "to much".

    Re: Pumps

Instead of the hydors I would suggest you get the maxi jet 1200's with the sure fow mod and sure grip magnets. These move much more water than the hydors, are slightly smaller and will most likely last longer. The hydors are nice and function well but compared to the MJ with the mod I don't think I'll purchase any more of them.

    Re: Pumps

First let me state my apology for intially putting this in the wrong forum and say "Thank You" to the moderator that moved it to the right one.

I would love to leave the Magnum on, but right now it has some hair algae on it and I think the only way to get rid of it completely is to take it off and give it a very good thorough cleaning and then to let it dry. Besides with the way my tank is positioned, it is getting rather difficult to take that beastie on and off to clean it regularly. Instead I put the carbon into the output side of my bak pac skimmer.

Samper is there a good picture of the MJ with the mod on it? Can I buy this from a store or do I have to make it myself? Right now I am rather tied up with medical transcription class as well as fighting the effects of a Fibromyalgia flare up, therefore doing a mod on my own is pretty much out of the question. I really don't have the time and energy at this point to even really take care of the tank. So far the water looks clear and the corals are still looking pretty good, so I think I am fine.

    Thank you Samper.

Don't know if I will go that route, but it does give me some options
