Question Tubing clamp on return hose

My tank is 5 years old and contains a 15 gallon sump with a skimmer and mag drive pump. The return tubing has a metal clamp securing it to the pump. I noticed recently that the clamp is beginning to change colors. Could this clamp cause water quality problems? If so, what else could I use to ensure that the tank return tubing stays securely attached to the pump?

    Hey,.

They do make a plastic clamp that does the same thing. I would go ahead and get it out of there, although I don't think it is gonna cuase any severe problems. Those clamps are usually stainless steel.

Thanks for the reply. The clamp is truly stainless steel so I was truly alarmed when I saw the discoloration. This is the only metal other than pump screws that I know of in my tank. I'll definitely take your advise and look for the plastic clamp.

All mine look the same way, but mine aren't underneath water. I can't remember where I saw the plastic ones, check Foster&Smith or Marine Depot maybe.
