    Wink Cooling Fans

I have a proplem with cooling fans. I have been using ther JAEBO fans of the 6 fan assembly. And have used up 6 fans so far this year. They all have seen the wires carrode and fall of the fan, have you seen this problem and how do you correct it, it is used to lower temperature in the sump. Does anybody have any other method for coolin the water temperature.

    Hi Mandarin, Welcome to Reefland!

I am not really sure what kind of fan you are referring to (did and search and couldn't come up with anything). Do you just have the fan blowing across the surface of the sump water? If so, any small cheap fan should work fine for this. The best method for temperature control is a chiller but this can get expensive and is often times not practical due to the implementation requirements.

What size tank is it? Try moving the fans a bit away from the sump. The problem with blowing fans across the water is you increase evaporation, which leads to the corrosion you're having. Or, if it's a smaller tank, look into the bottom of the line aqua medic chiller, it won't break the bank. I used one on a 45-gal once for a while and it worked okay, found one kinda cheap on ebay. I had same problem, was my first reef tank and no sump, the fans kept corroding my lights though. I think if you offset the fans a bit though the corrosion will slow down a bit though.

    Good Luck!

That's because the correct spelling is JEBO. That's the Chinese company that puts out all that very inexpensive aquarium equipment that is known for being extremely cheap and extremely poor quality. Nothing they make lasts very long, whether it's lights or anything else.

In the case of aquarium ventilation fans, you have to go with the more expensive, better quality fans, that are better able to withstand a saltwater environment. And none of them will last forever. It's just a matter of whether they last months or years.
