Help me justify buying a Ca Reactor!
Im thinking of getting a Ca Reactor for my 180G reef... ters a unit which holds 5kg of media selling for RM1300 about USD300... can someone pls help me justify making tis huge purchase? why i really need it? is it cheaper to run?
Currently iv been using JBL CalciuMarin to maintain my Ca levels... its sorta like kalk... gotta mix the 2 powders in a plastic bottle, then added to the auto-top-off resevoir... weekly... costs RM30 (USD8) lasting 2 months, n manual labour of mixin n shakin... The only reason i can come up with to justify the reactor is getting rid of the manual labour part... n also providing a stable constant supply of Ca... but cost wise... its a bomb! the initial cost is very very expensive... n it doesnt include the CO2 supply, need to add a further RM600 (USD150) for the cylinder n valve... all n all, the total cost comes to wat a fresh engineer would earn per month pre-tax... Sos... i need more convincing as to why i need the reactor... Thanks in advance... Chris

Compare it to buying a TV. You have the $600 to pay for one vs. not spending as much up front and renting one for $40/month. Over a few years there gets to be quite a difference.
Figure how much you are spending now and compare. If you don't come out and don't mind the dosing I would continue on as is. I personally would never do without one. Last edited by 36; 07-10-2001 at 08:05 AM. |
