New to the HOBBY Reading Before Starting

Hey, Im just getting into the hobby and need a little help.

I have a 55 gal tank that I would like to make salt water.

From my understanding from lots of reading you should have about 2lb of live rock per gallons of water. Now is it safe to start with say 20 lbs of live rock in my 55 and sand and just let that build for a couple of weeks and eventually add new live rock as I get more money. Or should your tank be completely set before starting to add fish.

My plans are to Have a live rock, anemone, and 2 clowns in the whole system. Any tips on this set up that I am doing that I should know?

    Thanks in advance

I'm new myself and I've found it takes a while to get replies on this site. But I will share with you what I've been told. It is easier to get the total rock ammount from the start so you won't have to go thru the whole cureing process with new rock. Also the whole 2lbs per gallon is for gulf of mexico rock if you get other rock you can go lighter. what are all of the places you have loocked at live rock? you might try flordialiverock.com and try doing a google search for live rock you will find all kinds of suppliers. The book I have been reading says to cure the rock in the tank without substrate, but thats my book I don't know what yours says. Hope this helps

1-2 pounds of rock is about right. Most of the time I do less then a pound per gal. I think I have about 80 pounds in my 120 right now. If it were me I'd start with a box, I think there running about 45 pounds these days (around there) and you'll be done..

I'm not a big anemone fan, most die with in weeks. I'd look for tank raised if you must have anemones.
