    Question Bowed Acrylic Tank?

I purchased a 90 gallon acrylic tank (60Lx22Tx16D) with rounded front corners for a great deal because of scratches along the front of the tank. When I got it home I noticed that the front and back wall of the tank have a slight bow to them, maybe a half inch or so out in the middle. All of the seams seem to be in good shape and the tank holds water with no leaks after 24 hours.

Should I be concerned with this or is this normal for an acrylic tank? It did come with a homemade hood made out of 3/4" pine boards and I am thinking that the weight of the hood combined with the warm temps may have caused the tank to bow a bit under the starin.

    Re: Bowed Acrylic Tank?

I am no expert but I would be concerned. I had a 180 that crazed, people said it might last, but I didn't want to risk losing everything that I had planed on putting in it. I would stay away from any acrylic tank, just for those reasons. No center brace?

    Re: Bowed Acrylic Tank?

I've been real happy with my acrylic, but I've never experienced anything like this. Arcylic is very versatile and easy to work with. Well, all except for those scratches - you have to be really careful when cleaning not to trap a grain of sand in whatever you're using to clean the inside. As far as a bow, I've never run into that before. What type of light was in that canopy?

Perfectly normal for a rounded corner acrylic to bow a little in the front. I have a 110 myself and have been keeping fish in it for over 10 years with no problems. In fact one of the best tanks I have ever owned. Hope this helps

    Re: Bowed Acrylic Tank?

I would have to agree with metalhead, I have a 55g acrylic tank and it has a slight bow in it and I have been using it for around 12 years with both freshwater and now saltwater.
