    new to saltwater, need help.

I've had freshwater for the past few years. Currently I'm running a 20g tank with rainbow fish in it. Although I'm trying to get into saltwater.

At the LFS they have a 75 gallon (48x18x20) and a 90 gallon (48x18x24). so I'm either gonna go with one of them tanks and maybe you all can help my choose which one. I need help with what filtration system to get and what lighting to get. The tank will have coral, live rock, and fish.

what all do i need to set up my tank?

To start off the bigger the tank the better. The water quality will stay alot more stable the more water you have. Its more money to get and to run but you will never complain about having too much room in the tank. You can have more fish to.

For Filtration, Live rock, Remora pro Protien skimmer, hang on skimmer with a acqulifter pump, and a few powre heads. Sand bed is optional depending on what you want to keep. I have a 90 with a 20 gal sump/fuge. Go Big!!

Take a look on craigslist, there's a few nice saltwater setups for sale in Lex and Louisville. I agree that bigger is better to a point but if you're just starting out like me I would recommend a max total water volume of 100-150 gallons including the sump/fuge. So a good tank size would probably be 75-90 or even a 55 with larger sump volume would suffice I think. For lighting I would recommend metal halide complimented with HO or VHO fluorescence. The new LED setups look promising and far more energy efficient but are ludicrously overpriced at this point in time. Just so happens I have a nice hamilton fixture I may be getting ready to part with if you're interested. Hope this helps.
