Thumbs up Do I Have Good Enough Filtration On My 55 Gallon Tank?

I currently have a standard 55 gallon tank packed with live rock. I have a 100 gallon seaclone protien skimmer, and a hot magnum 350. I have 10 hermit crabs, 1 emrald crab, 1 coral banded shrimp, horshoe crab, 4 damsels, 1 clown, 1 butterfly fish, 1 tang, 1 dwarf angel, and a wrasse. My water is crystal clear so far but I've had some green algae pop up. Do you think this is enough filtration for my setup? I was thinking of adding an eheim 2227 wetdry canistor filter to help. Any ideas?

When you say green algae, what specifically are you referring to? What kind, where, etc.? With regards to filtration, what are your water parameters? Sounds like you're all set to me.

Sounds ok to me, but I would question the magnum filter.

If you are trying to do a reef tank, do not go with the wet dry filter. You wan to use the live rock/live sand to do the primary bio filtration. That coupled with a good protien skimmer (which you could us an upgrade) and good water flow are the main things you need. to help with algea though you could add a phosphate removing media like Bellaphos, Rowaphos, Phosban etc, in a phosphate reactor.

My magnum pumps out alot of water over my live rock. I don't have carbon in their just some fluval media in the cartridge sleeve I'm trying instead. As far as a protien skimmer would you know of any good hang on the back skimmers you could recommend?

For a 55 I would suggest moving up to something like the Octopus BH800s for a much better skimmer.

On the magnum, running the fluval bio media can cause higher nitrate than just using the live rock/live sand for bio filtration.

Re: Do I Have Good Enough Filtration On My 55 Gallon Tank?

    Hey,

I'm looking intot he Octopus BH100F and it has some great reviews. What do you think? Looks good for the price around 150. My only questions do the cpr bubble traps really work? and I've heard it will fit into this do you know? My seaclone is notorius for putting microbubbles in my tank and I'm constantly scrubbing bubbles of my rocks and stuff. Also, the water in my collection cup in the seaclone come out dark dark green in color. What color should this water be to insure it is working good. I've read that maybe it should be brown to be workin better? any ideas on that. I'm like a sponge and like know as much as I can thanks. Love the hobby.

That is a pretty good skimmer for the price. The BH800S is a lot better skimmer though for only 75 more.

Color of the water in the collection cup should be a nice dark color, the biggest problem is your seaclone is not a very good skimmer so it is hard to get a good dark skimment color, dark green is about the best I was ever able to get out of it.

I Get Water Almost Black Out Of My Seaclone Though. I Just Hate All The Micro Bubbles I Get Pouring Into My Tank. Thanks For All You Info.
