Is there a live chat on this forum anywhere...I think that would be so cool, as I have seen it on many other forums.. Sorry if this is in the wrong place, as I looked and did a search and found everything but that;;

No we don't have one and haven't for a very long time due to a lack of interest.

Thank you nonetheless for the response! I just figured it would be easier for me to talk to Ninong that way as opposed to driving him nutts with written questions![]()
That is to bad, live chat sounds like it would be great. Long winded 'I don't see your point' guys like me it would work out super.
Live chat was never a good way to ask questions about reefing. Most of the time we talked about sports and other stuff.
It's better if questions about reefing are asked in a thread on the board so that more people can offer advice and more people can benefit from reading the thread.
I don't want to sound rude or anything but every question that you can think of that new hobbyists come up with has already been asked and answered many times on this board. You would be amazed what you can find using the search feature.
Use "advanced search." Specify the search term, e.g. cyanobacteria or diatoms, etc. If you want to restrict your search to just answers from a particular member, enter that person's board name in the box called "user name." For example, if you want to know what I have had to say about cyanobacteria over the years, enter cyanobacteria as your search term and Ninong as the user name. Then choose "show results as posts" instead of threads. That way you would just get my posts on cyanobacteria. I just tried it. I got 98 posts by me on cyanobacteria.
If you want to know what kevinpo has to say on something, or zhenya, or Reefland, just enter their names. They have much more experience than me, especially Kevin. I just have more time to respond because I'm retired. Kevin owns his own LFS. If I want to know something about livestock, I ask him.
If you want to know anything about photography, enter Poseidon as the user name. Or zhenya.
You don't have to enter a user name at all. That way you will get a lot more results. And you can choose to have the results displayed as threads or individual posts.
This is hilarious. I just googled cyanobacteria + Ninong and got 251 hits. That's because it's giving me posts that I made on other boards in addition to Reefland.

Ninong
Now it's 252 because that post will come up too.
I like the idea of chatting, but ya it wouldn't really work.
What we need is taped video broadcasts on the most common items. I bet people are much more likely to sit and watch a few videos then use the search.

I think live chat would be very useful for certain things like an "emergency hotline" or "ask the expert" type of deal. Then if someone had a major problem and needed immediate assistance they could get it.
Somebody would have to monitor it though and emergencies aren't that commom to warrant it. From what I've seen, their's been an average of 1 to 2 requests for emergency help per day. Plus a lot of people having those emergencies are new to the board and won't know about the live chat.
An, ask the expert type of thing could work as a scheduled event. Maybe once or twice a week for 1 - 3 hours. The experts would have to be willing to donate their time though and we'd have to be willing to listen.![]()

Did someone say expert and donate in the same sentence?![]()
ummm ya... Where do I hide.
Maybe when I get an 800+ gallon tank I'll be doing some donating.
