new mixed water has weird odor

I am using a 32 gal brute and have the powerhead running to keep the water in motion. I store it all in a walk-in closet so it doesn't have any ventilation...the lid is not secured on the brute. when I opened the door today there was a strange odor coming form the water. It's been mixed for about 3-4 days. why and what is happening?

Probably just needs proper ventilation to aerate properly. Can't say for sure but it should be fine. Just let it aerate with ventilation for a while before you use it.

I'll just see what happens I guess...I know there are chemical reactions going on and all that so this could be normal and I wouldn't know.

The new mix does put off a certain odor. I wouldn't worry about it other then to make sure it has proper ventilation.

Keeping it in a closed closet for 4 days probably isn't the best choice. I'd try to at least open the closet door for an hour or more each day.

I think that might depend on the person. I can't smell mine when I'm right beside it but others can from across the house. Especially when it's aerating.

Of course they can smell it but it shouldn't smell weird.

I guess that depends on what we mean by weird. My interpretation was "different from normal air". Not that I can tell. Their could be a fire in the room and I wouldn't be able to tell.

It's supposed to smell like a fresh sea breeze, not like a mud flat at low tide.

I couldn't tell the difference if I was at the ocean or in death valley. About the only thing I can smell is girls nailpolish. Yipes that's nasty stuff. Think my sisters blew out my sense of smell.
