    How many pumps?

Im looking to set up a 190 gal (60lx30wx24h) or a 225 gal (72lx30wx24h), depending on room, FOWLR tank and trying to decide which would be better. 2-1500gph little giants pumps or equvelent pumps giving around 2600gph in tank or one 4700 dolphin centerfugal which would give around 3000gph in the tank.

I like the 4700 dolphin due to less heat transfer to the tank than 2 high speed pumps but the 2 pumps would be nice in that if one fails I would still have the other running. The price would be pretty much the same either way except maybe a little more for plumbing for the 2. If I went with 2 pumps I would have 2 seperate sumps set up on with skimmer and stuff and one with refugium and a heater in each sump.

Why not use the Dolphin Amp Master 3000, it has zero heat transfer and uses .9-1.1 amps, it will do 3000 gph at 5 feet of head through 1.5" pipe

I was thinking of using the amp master and after further researce I realized it had higher head than I had thought. So I think I will be getting a ampmaster. Thanks

I just got off the phone with Dolphin. Sounds like the aquasea pumps in 2400, 2700, and 3600 will also have the 1 amp motor on them. So you aren't limited to the 3000. I had a question on my 3600 and found this out as a side bit of information. I am not sure if this will effect the flow curve of the pumps, but just FYI.

    Greg,

The Ampmaster is a solid pump. Your risk is low that the pump itself would fail. If you design the system right, you can minimize the risk of having snails or critter related failures.

Overall, I'd go with a single ampmaster 3k based on everyone's experiences on the different BBs.
