I bought a Marineland C-360 canister for my 75 gallon which I never used. It claims to have virtually no bypass. Exactly...what does this mean and why do they promote it as a good thing?

The water that enters either hits the media or goes around it. When water doesn't hit the media and get filtered, that is the bypass.
So what they're saying here is that the bypass is minimal, so almost all the water that enters into the filter, flows through the media.
