Quatrain tank? As I mentioned earlier in another post . I知 currently going through a ich outbreak and now I知 looking into the future and planning for the what if or when I get it again. I have another tank that I could set up as a quatrain tank but I have couple of different options in mind and I知 sure that second one is crazy, but I dreamed this up last night laying in bed and just might work. Give me your thoughts.
  • Can I just set up in another room without special lighting and no sand or crushed coral? I was thinking about running a canister filter with bio balls and a heater and nothing else. Then the question start running through my head of how long before I知 able to use it? It still has to cycle right? How often do you have to perform water changes on a unit that might never be used (well unless I add more fish ).

2. Ok here is a way out there option. Could I set up this other tank as a second sump with it痴 own overflow, hearter and return pump (plus a canister filter which would not be on until later (read below)? Let me explain a little more. If I did this it would basically add another 20-25 gallon of sump to my existing set (46 gallon with 20 gallon sump) therefore adding more water which is good right?? Then if I get sick fish or add more fish I could shut off the sump and turn on the canister filter and use it for a quatrain tank. Then after 28 days (in the case of itch) the fish are well I could follow all the recommendations that I have read in these forums and clean out the quatrain tank and dry completely and refill with fresh saltwater and turn back on and that could count as my water change for that month. Ok I know it seems a little weird, but I did think enough about it to type it . This is the only forum I have ever been involved in and I absolutely love it. There is so much information in here.
