    Coralife skimmer

I have a Coralife Super skimmer 65 set up in my sump ( I have used it as a hangon as well) and I can’t get it work like I think it should work. This is what it does. The red button on top that allow you to micro adjust must always be on the lowest setting and I have to empty it daily. If I turn it up all it will just flood the overflow the collection cup.

    Re: Coralife skimmer

well how long has it been set up. the problem may have corrected itself already. If its a new skimmer, they always take awhile to get going how they should. generally around two weeks. the reason for this is a very thin slime coat must build up in the tube which helps the skimmer work properly. during this stage you should have it set so the bubbles stay around the base of the neck, then it will start producing skimmate when it gets broken in and u can adjust it from there. you want tea to coffee color, not black

    Re: Coralife skimmer

    cwoods5,

I have the same brand of skimmers and until just last week I couldn't get it to work "right". Here is what was going on for me... if it was in the sump the collection cup would overflow no matter what, so I attached mine as a hang-on on the side of the sump (thought that would help, but no it made thing just not work in a different way), i found that if there is too much water movement around the pump intake for the protein skimmer it wouldn't create the right bubbles and would either not work or would overflow. I got a new really thick filter sock which really help and it seems that my skimmer has been working great ever sence.
