Re: my initial setup and hello

Thanks for the reply. Where would something like this be purchased, maybe a plumbing supply store?

Thanks on the congrats. I now have saltwater fever and I'm excited. The nano-cube would be good for a hospital tank, right? Should I leave the shrimp and crabs it it or leave it without live stock?

Re: my initial setup and hello

You can get eggcrate at Home Depot or Lowes in the lighting dept.

If you are gonna use the nano for a Q tank, take everything out.

Re: my initial setup and hello

crate between rock and sand? I've never seen this. Anyone have a good tank picture or a specific crate picture?

As for the refugium, I ended up getting the medium.
    CPR AquaFuge 2 Hang-on Refugium

Sigh, I just feel like there's going to be less space on the back of my tank b/c it's a hang-on. It will arrive today or tomorrow. My tank already has intake/outtake from FX5 Fluval filter, and Remora Pro Skimmer, and heater...

I guess I can move the heater into the refugium....

    aah thanks!

But then... what about pistol shrimp or shrimp gobies ... or other species that would dig into the sand and burrow? but that's true about live rock being sunk into the sand.

Re: my initial setup and hello

Craigslist has tons of people getting rid of there tanks for cheap. After some due dilligence I found a complete 75 gallon setup for cheap. Everything brand new would've cost me a kidney.

Re: my initial setup and hello

i've never seen so many fish in my life, and they're all on one street in hong kong. and extremely cheap! and extremely cramped. poor fish. bubble anemones are 3 dollars, ocellaris clowns are 2.5, a few variety of tangs are 3... and tons of corals and stuff, but i donno anything about those.... so if you're ever in hong kong, find goldfish street in mong kok area, kowloon.

Re: my initial setup and hello

wow... is this good or bad? my refugium (the medium sized hang-on-back from CPR or CRP?) contains macro algae, some small pieces of live rock, some sand, and 4-5 snails.

after returning from my 2 week vacation, it has lots of growth! tons of copepods/isopods... and I've even spotted a tiny/mini starfish (total size is that of my pinky). also, tons of algae growing on the walls and on the heater i moved into the refugium.

is this all good stuff? should i clear the algae from the walls of the refugium? the light is on 24/7...

Re: my initial setup and hello

I found a couple of those mini/tiny brittle starfish (less than size of my pinky) in the refugium now. How do those reproduce?! Where do they come from???

Re: my initial setup and hello

I had some black and white striped ones come in with live rock one time. They actually propogate pretty easily in enough space. They're like bristleworms, you don't realize how many you have until you tear down the tank. There's always one Godzilla sized one somewhere.

Re: my initial setup and hello

oh wow. Mine are all white. I saw at least 5 in my refugium. They're so tiny and move slowly.

I might put my hitch hiker hermit crab in my refugium next... he might pick at them. But I'd move him because he was picking on my snails, not b/c I want him to eat other stuff... but I might as well maybe. We'll see.
