    Cooling system for my tank

    hello friends...how are you!?
i need some advice in a cooling system for my 60g tank.
the tank is fish only (meditarranean fish actually) and at the moment its winter here so no worries with the tempature cause my tank temperature is around 22 degress celcius without heaters etc....only the heat from tubes and pumps.but i know that in summer it is going to be a problem cause of excessive warm weather. so im trying to plan something now so in summer i will be ready to act. i know that there are chillers available..but they are bit expensive and waste alot of electricity. i read about some cpu fans that can be used as a surface cooler...i want some more advices please!!!

    thanks

The fans will work..they will lower the temp 2-4 degrees MAX. They will also increase your evaporation tenfold, so if you use them, make sure to use a auto top off sytem.

Really, you should use a chiller. They only use electricity when they are running, and your tank, in relaity, is not that big. To minimize the chillers running time, you can set the temp on higher setting, like 78-80 fahrenheit (I think thats like 26-28 degrees celcius). This is still a safe zone for the majority of fish and corals....

ALso, don't get cheap..spend the extra 100-200 dollars (or about 140 to 180 euros) on one size larger then recommend for your tank. This will require the less running time of the chiller, which will help with the utility bill, and keep the tank more stable.

I would go with at least a 1/4 HP (horse power) chiller for a 60 gal tank.

    Good luck...and Merry Christmas.

    Thanks for your reply,

at the moment i cant afford for a chiller...maybe i will try fans first and than if they dont work i will switch to a chiller...and yes as u said i believe in dont buy cheap stuff cause u will end up in cheap/dangerous results ;)

    so thanks for advice
