    Used tank resealing

So I just bought a 130g tank that was used for 5 years and sat for the last 2. My question is should I strip the old silicone and reseal it even though it is not leaking.

Or am I good for another 6 or 7 years. I am kinda leaning twards resealing it just to be safe but I just wanted some feedback.

If it aint broke dont fix it. If not leaking and the silicone isnt coming loose anywhere i would leave it alone and use it. Not sure about whats on your tank but most silicone is good for years and years. just my 2 cents

The silicone looks fine but i thought that once its wet then dried it shrinks and could start to leak?

no you should be fine. 100% silicone that is used in these tanks will not shrink. You should be fine

    Re: Used tank resealing

I moved my tanks from Colorado (doesn't get much drier) to NY and none of them have leaked thus far (knock on particle board). Remember, you should always check the tank for leaks by filling it up with fresh water first. That goes for brand spanking new ones too. On another note, have you ever sealed a tank? It would be a shame to strip all the old silicone out, put in the new, and then find out you don't what the @@@@ you're doing.

How long during/ after the move was it dry? I went ahead and resealed it, i guess we will find out tomorrow.

The other places i have looked/ called said to reseal it.

The tanks were taken down in Colorado, they were dry by the next day.
If the vertical sealant was missing I guess you wouldn't have had any choice any way.
