    Overkill?

Ok so I have done my homework and compiled a parts list for my new 100 gallon aquarium. I am buying equipment pieces here and there but I just dont know if im over doing it and can down size on some parts or what. My main concern is my sump setup and the flow of my circulation:

    Sump: 40 gallon tank 36x12
    Octopus extreme 200
    mag 12 pump
    CS102 Overflow.

Is my mag 12 to big or small for circulation and when it comes to my skimmer I hear you really dont want 3 times the amount of gph on the pump. Well a 200x3 is 600 but then my mag 12 is 1200. So is that bad? And tips would be nice. For the fittings I will be running pvc with adjustable valves. Should I put the refegium on the far right side of the tank and the skimmer on the far left with return in middle? Or work from left to right.

The Mag12 is a bit big, but remember its not 1200 gph at 6 ft as it returns to the tank. For power efficiency a Mag 9.5 might be a better alternative. If you already have the Mag12 you can put an adjustable valve, preferably gate but a ball valve would work to turn down the flow from the Mag12 back to the 100g tank. Don't put any valve in front of the return pump. I don't know what you mean left to right, but the skimmer should be first in line with the water flow in the sump, then you send the water to the refugium.

    Re: Overkill?

OK thanks for the help. And no I haven't purchased the mag 12 yet I was wanting to get a reply before I spent the money. But sorry for the left to right thing. I just meant a sump setup that had the skimmer, then refugium
that fed into the sump itself. But I'll invest into the 9.5 for sure. Once again thank you.
