If you can get that to work it will definitely help. I looked at those a little closer on the internet. The reviews were pretty good, they just recommend a pretty good air pump to run it. My only concern is that the collection cup at the top, I would think, will need to stick out of the top of the tank. I don't know how you would do that with your hood. If you buy it on line, see if that's the case before you unpack it too much. When I was looking at your hood I didn't think to see if there was some space in there where something like that could stick up between the filter and the light. If there is room in there I think that thing just might work. For $40 it's worth a try. I have had good luck in returning things to Marine Depot if the packaging is still intact.

Don't do an undergravel filter. It's worse than the biowheel. If you are dead set on keeping the hood, look for a hob nano skimmer, and mount it on the opposite side off the tank from the water pump. You will have to cut a hole. I think you have about 4 to 5 inches before you hit the water trough. Salt creep will be bad in that spot. Real bad.

What about the OCeanic Bio Cube in tank skimmer? Its small, recommended for aquariums up to 29 gallons, and with rock, I know mines less. plus im just looking for anything that will help at this point.

At his point I don't know what to tell you. The reviews on the Bio Cube skimmer are pretty bad. Dicking around with that thing may just cause you more frustration. I assume the cost of scrapping the hood is out of the question. I know what it cost me for all the stuff I have and it's a lot.

Maybe carving up your hood to get a prism skimmer in there and dropping your water level to avoid leaks will work. I really don't know. Wish I had a fix for you.
