    Skimmer Recommendation

Howdy all, have a 75 Gal AQ with live rock, corals and a couple of small fish. Have a SeaLife System protein skimmer that sits in my wet/dry powered by a Mag-Drive 7 pump. I hardly ever get any good foam or waste water from the skimmer. Nitrates look good when I check them (almost zero). I don't know if I should just keep what I have, or if I should think about replacing the skimmer (if not broke. . right). Any thoughts? Do most skimmers always have foam coming out even in the best of tanks? Any thoughts/recommendations on a good skimmer?

    Thanks,

    mark

If you only have two small fish, this doesn't sound too suprising.

What are you feeding your tank, and how often?

If the water levels test okay, I wouldn't worry about it until you have a more typical bioload on the system.

But don't go adding a lot of new inhabitants all at once. ;)

ToddTT, thanks. . have two small clown fish and a royal gramma in the tank. Every couple of days, I cut up a couple of slices from this red, green, and brine shrimp frozen food that they gobble up pretty quick. I would love to put in a few more fish in the tank with the corals, but just don't want things to cause more "challenges" with the water levels. .

    Whatcha think?

    Thanks

How old is the setup? If the tank is new, under a few months, take things very slowly. Give it a chance to stabilize.

Are you feeding once every three days? That's not enough:

Feeding Marine Fish and Fish Nutrition

If the tank is not new, and the levels are good, sure, add more fish. Not too many at once, use a quarantine tank, and make sure to check minimum tank requirements, compatibilies, etc.

LiveAquaria.com has a lot of info that is useful in selecting inhabitants for your tank.

At 75 gallons, many fish will be off limits, so be careful. Many tangs, triggers, larger angels, etc. will not do well.

    When in doubt, ask here.

    Good luck.
