Re: New 75 gal setup suggestions please.

Does anyone know if Copper leaches into plastic? I know it gets into the glass. The only reason is I have a pump and a powerhead that were exposed to copper and I wanted to know if they are junk now or if I can reuse them. I plan on having soft corals and invertibrates.

    Thanks,

If the pump is an expensive one, it may be worth buying a copper test kit, and running the pump on a bucket (I'm not sure what kind of pump you have). Try running the power head in a bucket too. Run them for a week or two and then test the water (remember to top off the bucket with copper free water). If the pump is a cheap one, it's probably time for a new one anyhoo. I'm not a big, "it's all garbage if it was exposed to copper" fan. In my own experience, it just doesn't make a bit of difference. Other people's experiences may vary. You certainly wouldn't want to throw away a Red dragon pump because it had copper run through it. If it will leach copper, it will eventually leach all of the copper (conservation of mass theory by Albert Einstein), so just run it until you don't read anymore copper.
