The skimmer is not the main concern.
How long has your tank been running? What is in it? What are your test results for ammonia, nitrites, PH, etc.? What other equipment do you have?
If it is a new tank, putting fish in it before 6-8 weeks can be somewhat cruel.
Make sure to read these:
Setting Up a FOWLR Aquarium
What is Water Quality
And heavily consider this:
Find The Conscientious Marine Aquarist: A Commonsense Handbook for Successful Saltwater Hobbyists (Microcosm/T.F.H. Professional) 2nd Edition 2008 Robert M. Fenner 1890087998 9781890087999 - Direct Textbook
There is also a cheaper paperback edition.
Make sure you have a long term plan for stocking. Adding the wrong fish now can limit your choices and success later.
What do you think you'll have in your tank a year from now?
And remember to be patient. Haste is the #1 tank/fish killer.
