Is the drain portion of this system supposed to always run?
The system is hooked up basically the way it was initially (as an under sink R.O.) minus the sink-top spout. So, the water intake is connected to my cold water angle-valve in the constant on position as water stays on for constant use (i.e. drinking water) in its original design. The "clean" water out has a plastic (1/4") angle valve to shut off (instead of the sink-top spout). BUT, the "dirty" water out that connects to the drain, is just that connected with no off switch just as the system was originally designed for. This is the line that has a slow run off all the time, even as I shut off the "clean" water out.
If this IS normal, and I don't need to be concerned with a faulty part on the original system that would normally do this for me...then I would figure a way to add an inline shut-off ahead of the system.
Maybe Steve will take longer to digest this and have his funny remarks AFTER I get good advice from the rest of you...thanks![]()
Okay, I think I understand your question a little better now. I have used both the under-sink drinking water R.O. system with the sink-top faucet and a 3-gal (or was it 5-gal???) drinking water storage tank under the sink and a typical R.O./D.I. system for producing R.O./D.I. water for my reef aquarium.
The under-sink setup was back more than 15 years ago before I even started my first reef aquarium. I needed it because my water was very hard. Then, after adding a typical salt-based water softening system, my water was too salty and not tasty for me and certainly not suitable for my orchids. So i had to add an R.O. drinking water system to take out the salt that my water softener put in to soften the water.
My under-sink drinking water system did not run once the holding tank was full. It would then start running again after I used some of the drinking water (R.O.) from the special drinking water spigot. So it didn't run all the time, just when necessary to refill the holding tank.
My reefkeeping R.O./D.I. system ran only when I turned it on. I did not have it on an automatic control system.
I don't think your under-sink drinking water R.O. system is supposed to run 24/7. I think you should ask them about that.

The only problem, is it was a removal from a remodel project, I am in the construction business. I was trying to adopt this into my situation, guessing how it was pulled out as our tear out crew does not keep things together so good it had me concerned about my connections as well. I might have to save up for a R.O./D.I. system if this one is an issue. Thanks for your help.
Do you know any plumbers? Ask one of them. Not Joe the Plumber because he's not even licensed.![]()

Actually, once Ninong starts answering a post there is little need to do anything but sit back and enjoy. I wasn't going to post in this thread again, until I saw your snide comment.
Have we met before, maybe a old face with a new name perhaps. Maybe if you were more knowledgeable you would have set it up better with a cutoff device. But would you be able to figure out how to turn it off.
Steve, the point of my thread was to gain information and to confirm if my correct install was working properly or there was an existing issue, and why the homeowners were willing to scrap for a new one. Your remarks started very snide in the first place to be honest and so I thought I would have fun with it. That was my mistake, thinking that you would have fun back or in this case obviously have issue's with many people, hence the questioning who I am lol. FYI, I am not another person you had issues with, nor am I as bored as you are to speak before I think. I have some advice for you, learn how to "turn it off" yourself as your mouth continues to drip sludge into my thread.
I apologize, but the truth of the matter is that the remark "If the question is " Does it drain all the time" answer "Only if you don't have common sense or your missing both your arms."." was only meant for someone that was stupid enough to leave it on when water wasn't needed when it could be turned off. It was more or less a joke because I didn't think anyone would be that stupid. Even Ninong replied "Why don't you turn it off". I will be happy not to post in any of your threads again. Good luck.
In that response, your O.K. in my book and you can post in any of my few threads...I understand your response better and that makes sense to me. I should have stated it IS off, but that is common sense to me lol.
By the way (update), it looks to shut off on its own, but needs time to pressurize the holding tank first, taking several hours (overnight) even after I shut off my "clean water" valve.
