    Ac unit or chiller...?

Summers coming around and I need to cool my tank off before all my corals die. Should I get an AC unit for my room and just have it on most of the day until it cools off or should I just get a chiller for my room. Which would cost more to run? I'm leaning towards the ac since it would keep me cool too...

If you get a chiller don't forget it puts out heat, your tank will be cool but you will be dripping in sweet.

    Re: Ac unit or chiller...?

    I second Steve's comment.

A chiller will be cheaper to run than an air conditioner since it's cooling a much smaller volume, but you'll get no benefit from it yourself. The heat the chiller removes from the water will get pumped into your room so unless you've got a way to blow the heat outside then it's only going to get more uncomfortable for you.

If you still see a need for more heat reduction after getting a AC unite, try using a fan. You will be surprised at how well a fan blowing across the top of your tank will work. The only drawback is that there will be more evaporation than normal.
