    what do I need.

Im about to set up a 54gallon drilled corner tank. What kind of protein skimmer, wet-dry system, pump, overflow? do I need or should I get.

    Re: what do I need.

You'll need water. Probably some salt.
Make sure you read a lot of other people's questions. Most of what you're asking has been asked many times before. I don't know your experience level is, if you've never had a saltwater tank or you've never had success with a saltwater tank, make sure you read the Stickys on how to manage water parameters and such. And remember, it takes a long time for a tank to really be ready for livestock (IMHO), don't rush into putting ANY livestock into your tank. I would personally recommend a few months, even if your tank cycles in a few weeks.
You say your tank is drilled. That seems to indicate that the overflow is built into the tank. Is it in the bottom or did you drill into the top of the tank? If it's in the bottom you should have a partition built in as well. If not, you'll need one. Stop by your LFS and look at a Reef-Ready tank to see what needs to be done. If you don't have an LFS near you, glasscages.com's overflow section has some pictures that might give you an idea. If its drilled in the top, I don't remember where, but I've seen pictures of what to do in that instance as well. I think a 54g is 36" long, if so, a sump is going to be tricky (space under the tank will be at a premium). Eshopps makes a cheap, bare bones one, CPR, ETSS, and so on and so forth.
Steve would recommend the Alpha Cone 170. Pretty pricey though. Everyone seems to be happy with Aqua-C. An Aqua-C Remora would be small and fit into a smaller sump. If you look at protein skimmers the choices can be overwhelming. Stay away from the el-cheapo's. For a small tank (it doesn't look small but it is) stay away from a downdraft or Beckett style - they're too inefficient for smaller tanks. If you have a specific model you're considering, run it by the forum - someone will know whether its a good choice. I personally use a CPR Backpack 2 on a 40g, which is OK, but you can do better, and you definitely don't want a hang-on if you bothered to get a drilled tank.
Most people like the Korallia's for in-tank circulation. I have a Korallia 1 and I like it a lot. Its a little weak for a 36" tank though. For your size tank I would think a pair of Korallia 2's should be good. If you've got the money the EcoTech Vortec power heads are pretty sweet.
Supreme Mag-Drive's are well thought of for return pumps. A MagDrive 7 should be enough. If you have the money - Sicce and Red Dragon would be better. Remember to put an adjustable valve on the output of the return pump. The Iwaki's and the like will be awefully power hungry for a 54g. Probably wouldn't be worth it.
Don't forget the heater. I like Hydor, personally, but they're all a crap shoot. Make sure you get a spare. I had a heater fail back in March, at night, on a Sunday. Make sure you have a spare.

Everyone that has Octopus skimmers seems to like them. If you're concerned about higher efficiency and a higher quality pump, the Octopus Super Reef SRO-1000 runs around 300 bucks for the internal model. If you plan on a sump, you NEED to make sure whatever you get fits. The regular Octopus NWB 110 is under 200 bucks, is a bit less efficient but would probably be just fine. Also, if you have a bit more to spend, the Octopus XP2000SS cone runs around 500 dollars, but takes up very little space. SWC is a brand that also makes a line of affordable cones, that are pretty comparable to Octopus in performance.
