Brand new to reef tank equipment issue

Ok my first aquarium of any kind really. Here is my problem. I have a 125 gallon tank that I am setting up as a reef tank. It is drilled with dual corner overflows to my sump below. My return pump is rated at 950 and the overflows are handling the return volume just fine. My only issue is that the right overflow only is making a God awful slurping effect where it sucks down water then returns it then sucks it down then returns it. Knowing nothing about plumbing or tanks in general I would assume this is some sort of air issue. The overflows have stand pipes with holes on each side at the top and then another hole above the water level on top with a tube that allows air to escape. If I plug the hole on top it gets much better, leveling off the water level for approximately 3-5 minutes before doing it again. Otherwise it does it constantly. What should I do? Any help is greatly appreciated.

One of these DIY "silencing" options should work for you. Google the following: Hofer Gurgle Buster, Durso standpipe, Stockman standpipe. YouTube has some great DIY tutorials on the subject if you search for DIY silent overflow.

    Good luck!
