    Canada v. USA

I'd like to know why us poor Canadians can't get good deals on our fish and aquarium supplies like they can in the US... I use big al's to buy supplies and the price difference is quite astounding. 79.99$ on the US site vs 129.99 on the canadian site for a protein skimmer for example. Petco stores in the USA reflect the same pricing as big al's and I assume Petsmart is the same. Do any of my fellow canadian friends on this forum know where the good deals are hiding!? I'd like to be able to get my money's worth without having to drive an hour and a half and cross the border...

    Thanks eh

Stop having a currency with better exchange rates than the dollar would be my first guess....

Well, that would explain things 9 or 10 years ago when the looney was worth only about US$0.65 but lately it has been worth slightly more than the dollar. Right this minute it's worth only US$0.98 but that's because the price of oil has been slipping the past few days. If oil goes back up a few dollars, the looney will go back to US$1.03 or so. Back when oil was above $140/bbl, the looney was worth US$1.09.

The tie-in with the price of oil is because the US is a net importer of oil and Canada is a net exporter of oil.

US goods should be cheaper everywhere except the US, thanks to the drop in the dollar over the past decade.
