Well first question is what do you plan to keep in it? Will it be a reef tank? How much live rock do you plan to keep in it? Do you plan to do a dsb? I assume since you are using a hob skimmer your not going to have a sump. Sorry to ask so many questions just trying to get a fell for were you are going with this the first and most important thing to this hobby is research, go threw and read the stickies and everyone's post then sit down and have your tank planned out with what you plan to keep and what you can budget. I assume you have done most of that because that is a great skimmer but to be honest if your doing a reef set up I wouldn't even worry about it. With plenty or rock and flow you will be in great shape with out one. Good luck and welcome to the site

Some sort of filter would be desirable. If you already have the aquaclear you could use it. If not, I'd recommend a traditional wet dry hang-on like a Whisper or TopFin(Petsmart house brand). You need a filter to put carbon in and to filter out large particulates. I use a bio-wheel on my 40g with the bio-wheel removed and put carbon in it. The Penguins have a fairly large compartment which makes them very nice for this task. I buy the aquaclear carbon pouches and just throw them in the penguin compartment.
Don't run them with the bio-wheel or else you'll overload the tanks denitrification capacity.

IMO, a sump/ fuge would make things much easier. If you plan on adding one in the future, why not add one now and save yourself the trouble of upgrading later? HOB refugiums are also a good option. The aquaclear should work but do yourself a favor and ditch the bio media. It can trap debris and you'll have a hard time keeping nitrates down.

yea as i start reading more i find it a lot better to run the sump for a lot more reasons i thought so im just going to run it . need to read more on it like how much flow to put to i dont over flow my tank .
You dont have to go crazy with a sump. Pick up a cheap 10 gallon fish tank and a pump and you will be good. If you want make it a fuge just get some glass cut and make three chambers. Depending on how crafty you are the overflow is the hardest part. Im not sure how much a overflow box is but that's the most expensive part 50 bucks or so. I just put charcoal in my sump i don't run any filters. Its pretty nice to have with such a small tank give you some more water, gives you somewhere to hide your heater and everything there are just so many reason. What did you decided on lighting
im using 4x 24w T5 Odessea with 2 ATI blue plus, 1 ATI aquablue special, and 1 KZ Figi purple.
yea ill prob just make one with the ten gallon tank make life easier.
