So I am in the process of planning my 40g breeder reef tank. I did not want to build a sump tank for it, however I know it is the best way to go. What I was thinking about doing instead of making a sump was sectioning off a corner of the tank (inside the tank), sort of like a biocube. Basically water would flow into the sectioned off corner of the tank, flow down into a chemical filtration unit (which would remove surface scum, etc.) and then get pumped back into the actual tank. The idea is that all the filtration will be biological (so no protein skimmer) and everything will be inside of the 40g breeder tank (just like a biocube only larger). My local aquatics store said it was a great idea, just wondering what you guys would think.
Thanks!
