Aquatic Life Internal Mini Protein Skimmer 115

I had a CPR SR3 but it broke last week - dropped it taking out of tank. So to save some cash, I bought an Aquatic Life Internal Mini Protein Skimmer 115 - it was barely $60. I only have a 29 gallon tank. As for filtration in tow... live rock is on the light side (20lbs) and only 20 lbs of arg. sand / 10lbs live. I have a Fluval 305 hooked up to it too.

Anyone have any experience using one of these skimmers? They seem a little tight to tune and the compact-ness is a little cumbersome. Also, looks like from the get go I have a ton of microbubbles. Any support/comments welcomed!

It's probably better than nothing as a stop-gap measure, but if you can, I would plan on replacing it pretty soon with something of higher quality. It's one of those you get what you pay for it type things.

You must have a sump if you were using an SR3, no? Check out Aqua C and Octopus in sump models. They have some real nice smaller sized skimmers for a decent price. There are plenty of on-line retailers you could order from...might even find free shipping if you shop around.

Might be worth a call to CPR to see if you can repair or replace the skimmer body. CPR, Aqua C and Octopus all make nice HOB skimmers too.
