    RO/DI..? what should i do..?

I have a few questions.. Ive found a
50 gpd RO/DI system that is portable
that i really like and im planning on
getting very soon but the only problem
is where i live i cant install the system
in the house so thats why ive been
    looking into the portable ones..
If i were to install this system outside
it would work better for me being i would
only have to buy the hose splitter
so i can still have another hose
for other needs and id need a
storage container for the water the
RO/DI system makes in a day.
    So my questions are...

    1. Is it safe to install the system outside if it has cover from the weather..?

    2. Will it risk the water quality being outside..?

    3. what is safe to store my water in..?

    4. Is there any other options im not thinking of..?

Does anyone know anything about the portable systems..?

    Thanks for anyones help..

Check out the OCEAN WAVE+ FIVE STAGE 75 GPD RO/DI from the filter guyz: RO/DI Systems Had same problem - needed something portable, easy to install, etc. - this does the trick. I store water in 5 g buckets for water changes and have 5 single 1 g jugs for emergency on standby. I also keep a 2.5 g of just RO/DI (no salt) in a gas/kerosene container for top offs. Spout makes it easy. Brute garbage cans are popular too. Outside will risk temp fluctuations so make sure to buy a heater to match temp...or store inside (maybe in a boiler room) for easier time keeping room temp.

There are several options on that page, which would you recomend as I am looking for a simple ro/di to install in my basemenet. I saw alot on ebay but would buy one of these if they are good. I also saw a whirlpool one at lowes for about $150 that seemed reasonable but not a DI

Re: RO/DI..? what should i do..?

    Thanks for the info..
Im planning to store the water inside
as i need it to correct the ph and temp
mix the salt and let it sit for another
24+ hours before doing water changes
does this sound like it would work out..?
My problem with getting the RO/DI system
is my tank is a 55 gallon so with 75gpd would
be a little over kill for my setup even the
50gpd is a little much but i cant find any systems
that would work as far as being portable
that are under 50gpd. but its better to have more
than not enough so im going for it.
Does my plan sound like it should work to everyone..?
    Thanks again

Re: RO/DI..? what should i do..?

I think I am confusing you. I have a 29 gallon tank. I change 6 gallons every two weeks. I make 3 gallons a night for 2 days, mix, etc and store in two separate 5 gallon buckets w/ lids. The system is then off, under my drying rack until I need it again. For top offs, I have two 1 gallon tanks I store under the tank, and mix on demand. Again, system off until I need it.

My system makes roughly a gallon per 20 mins. It is a 75 gallon per day system but all of that depends on things like water pressure, volume in and such. I don't have all the details. The filterguyz would.

IMO, doing weekly water changes on your tank of 55 gallons would be roughly 10 gallons of water you would need to change. I don't see why the Ocean wave+ five stage 75 gpd ro/di system wouldn't be sufficient. Also, assume you are prepping 3-4 gallons of water in for every gallon of RO/DI out. I don't think you want this thing running all day

A TDS meter measures the amount of total disolved solids in the water. You want the levels at 0. Having any heavy metals in the water, like copper or crap like chlorine is bad. an RO/DI unit essentially removes everything, leaving a TDS reading of 0. It's also good to have, as it will denote when your filters need to be changed. Make sense?
