    protiem skimmer ?

This might be a dumb question. Can a protiem skimmer be setup so that the water runs thru the skimmer, then into a sump with refugium. Was thinking this way all the water going into the sump would be skimmed first. If this is a dumb question please excuse me, I'm a newbie

i dont think it is a dumb question no question is except the one not asked but as far as that goes i dont think your protein skimmer will go as fast as the water coming into the the sump the water drianing into the sump will be greater that the water going into a lets 10 gallon tank going through the protein skimmer and pumping into a sump will just not keep up in my opinon could be wrong

    Re: protiem skimmer ?

I think the biggest issue with that would be the mixture of air coming down the overflow plumbing. Most skimmers don't work well with bubbles/air at the intake.

If you had a full siphon overflow line to work with (like with a beananimal setup) it might work, but you'd be in for a lot of trial and error dialing in the right amount of flow for the skimmer vs the overflow siphon control valve vs the return pump.
Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the precipitate.
