Nano skimmer plus 40-50lbs live rock is your best bet to put it simply. However, 4-5 fish in a 29g is going to be too many without a doubt.

+1 bigger is better (to some extent). Refugiums aren't a necessity but come highly recommended.
Live rock, a skimmer and frequent water changes are your best friends.

Dont buy a bio cube. If you already have return it lol. Build your own bigger better tank for the same price. lol

If you are starting out and thinking about a fuge, do it yourself. I built a HOB refugium out of an Aqua Clear 70 filter for about $35. Not sure what type of back space is on a biocube, but on my 29 g it works perfectly.

I have a biocube 29 that`s been running for a year.....Got two black clowns, a yellow watchman goby and a scooter blenny.......peppermint shrimp, astreas snails and a few blue legged hermit crabs.....most have lived through the whole year (lost one peppermint shrimp out of the two lately).....Also have pulsing xenia, hammer coral, zooanthid, purple mushroom and hairy mushroom and brain coral....If I can do it, you can too:-)...Everyone talks about how hard to keep a scooter aka dragonette.......mine eats pellet food.......you can check out my video on you tube....... search 4136am.......It`s my first attempt at a video so kind of shaky:-)...You can also see my only other video of my 8 month old Lab catching a frisbee....You`ll do great with that biocube!!!

    Re: starting a 29g biocube..need advice!!

Hey there, Ihave been running a 29 for 37 weeks now. I used live sand and rock,a nominal cleaning crew and have maxed it with 4 fish and 1 shrimp.I also have a variety of lps corals, mushrooms and some leather corals. It is truly a small wold all to itself. My tank came with an entire setup with protein skimmer, return pump etc,it was an enclusive kit. I purchased an apporpiate metal hailde, and other accessories(buckets only used for water changes, test kits, things as such). It was a little more to set up a reef tank ($$$) than I had hoped for,but the tank is pretty easy to manage and I feel it is a good start to get your feet wet. My advise as a new hobbyist myself is patience, research, and a good lfs.Ihave also learned quite a bit from others by visiting sites like this one. There is a ton of things I have learned by reading threads. Enjoy, and take your time. Half the fun is setting it up and planning it out. One last thing....water changes will prevent a ton of problems. I spend about 30 to 45 mins a week tending to my tank.
