    JBJ ATO - Pump Recommendation

Wondering what everyone uses for a pump on their ATO? I am thinking about purchasing one and don't know if a Maxi Jet 1200 is overkill or a Mini-Jet 404 is too light. Looking to move water about 3 feet and not blast the tank. Was thinking a "Tom Aqua Lifter" with some airline tubing.

    Suggestions anyone? Thx

I would think either a good choice. The aqualifters will last a little longer running dry if you forget to refill the TO reservoir as they won't burn up near as fast as a MJ would.

The best pump for this application would be a peristaltic dosing pump. Although slow, these can be run dry continuously with no I'll effects to the pump itself. The process of evaporation and skimming happens slowly enough for these types of pumps to keep up just fine.
Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the precipitate.

Re: JBJ ATO - Pump Recommendation

I use a Maxi-jet 600 to lift water about 4.5ft. Has worked flawlessly for over a year. On my quarantine tank I use a Tunze Osmilator to lift water about 4ft. It works equally well.
I think the Maxi 1200 would be to strong for a 4ft lift. I tried, and still have, an Aqua Lifter pump and its maximum head is about 2ft. Worthless. Nice and quiet, but no pumping power. Both of my ATO's are set up with the kits from Aquahub. The kit gives you a 12v relay and float system that has worked well.
