2x1300GPH wave makers.... way too strong...?

Hey everyone i got 2 1300GPH wave makers in the mail today and i put one in my 55g reef and it seems to be way too much
for the corals i have. frogspwn colt coral thick finger leather goniopora caulastrea bubble coral zoanthids and a few others. i
tried aiming it in every direction even behind the live rock and nothing seems to be working out as soon as i plug it in everything
shrinks up and i let it run for a few hours hoping it was the change that did it and they did open a little but it looked like it was
to tear them apart and this was just one in the tank. any thoughts on this...?

I agree. Don't know what others will say, but thats not moderate flow, thats WOW flow. The corals you have really don't like mad crazy flow. My colt and Frogspawn feel the same way yours do, I had to find spots for them in my 8800gph flow tank. Those corals like to have the flow blow by them easily, not ripping at them.

Thanks alot for your input! my whole tank looked like it was taking a beating and i had no clue if this was normal or not but i didnt want to risk hurting them so i took it out and posted on here for some help. It looks like it is way too much for the corals i have. I even tried moving things around in the tank to block the current but nothing worked.

Best way to place them and figure out if you can make it work is this way: Put one on each end of the tank, point it up and towards the back of the tank. This will tell you wether you can make that kind of flow work for you.

Thanks for your help i appreciate it. I put the frogspawn in the front left corner and the bubble coral in the middle and the colt is up in the rocks almost all the way to the right corner and it was still so strong the colt was laying on its side the frogspwn was getting so much current it looked like someone took a hair brush and parted him in the middle the bubble looked like he liked it but was still being blown around pretty hard. i tried hiding them in the rock work and blocking some current and it still seems to be too much no matter what i try to do.
i think this may be enough to say its too much for them? the pump is awesome but i think its too much for the corals i have.

Hey Ryan, what make/model of pumps are those?

I've had similar issues in my 55 with 750 and 1050 Koralia evo's. My softies are being transitioned out, but when I had my large Kenya Tree Coral (More or less the same as a colt) powerhead placement was tricky...probably too much for the softies in particular.

It really depends on the type of powerhead though. Some focus all of their energy like a flashlight beam, but the better designed ones disperse the same energy over a broader area, and these are less likely to irritate corals and cause sandstorms.
Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the precipitate.

The early bird gets the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese.
