My Tester glows Orange when I dip the tip in my Aquarium, Care to help?

    Hi all,

I tested my aquarium the other day with a tester and it glows orange. I have also isolated the source. Actually, it has happenned so many times before and I keep changing the equipments, sometimes a power head, sometimes a Heater. This time round it is the light which is connecte to the hood. I have asked an electrician about it already and he says he has no idea where it is leaking from. I am so tired of this whole changing equipment thing. What I want to know is does an electric discharge that does not grossly shock you but is picked up on a tester have an effect on Fish? Two of my Gold fish have closed fins and look lethargic, though others seem fine. I dont see any obvious infections or parasites to have given them that. I really don't know what to conclude. There are conflicting reports about grounding an aquarium, some for it and other against. I dont know what to believe.

    Help!

The grounding of the tank is for stray current only, not stray voltage, which is an entirely different thing. If you are reading faint voltage on your meter its probably just stray current, and a grounding probe can be used easily to resolve the issue. Voltage on the other hand is a electrical unit leaking voltage into the tank, thats how you get the tingle sense, and thats bad, thats the problem you need to find or the problem will get to the point of frying open the circuit.
