Thumbs up 72 gal. Oceanic bow front maybe too cheap to pass on.

You may already know I was looking for a 100 gal to setup reef tank. I have a line on a used Oceanic bow front, 72 gal, lights, power heads, stand brushed metal., skimmer, timers, the whole bit salt ready for 75.00. She says she just wants it out of the way but it is in good shape. I am suppose to look at it tomorrow but I wonder if I will be unhappy with the 72 vs the 100? What fish limitations would I be putting on myself? No tangs? ect. Help me decide if this is just too cheap to pass on.

Can't beat it for the price, but, your not going to like it if Tangs are what you want to keep. 72 is going to be to small. The 100 will be longer and thus better.

My heart is not set on tangs at all. I was just wondering how much the 72 would limit my fish choice which I will stock lightly and eventualy keep more corals. I did see that tank size on certain Tangs can be smaller like the lemon peal and a few others but not set on them at all.

She says the tank, sump and stand all in excellent condition except for garage dust in her parents garage. I am going to look at it and will probably buy it at this price in a few.

Would not let me edit but as a side note: After unpacking I discoverd the following: Skimmer Brand=Octopus, stand alone refuge plummed for input and out flow with pumps, Wave timer control, stainless heater and control, additional light timer digital coral life, additional magna cleaners and net. Sump lid and fuge lid seems to be missing and I assume I can just have some plexi glass cut for both.

Yep I am pretty stoked and LSU is winning also. LOLOLOL I can not begin to know how all this goes together yet. Sump itself seems to be about 20 gal. and is plastic with a wet dry side that will just have some particulate filtration put in but no biological media. The stand alone Refugium seems to be about 5 gal or less in size. Not sure how that would work setting next to the sump and using small pumps to move water back and forth. That seems odd but I don't know enoeph yet to be sure. RM you had mentioned Octopus as one of your recommended skimmers and I about fell over when I saw the brand name on the attached pump. It seems to have a permanant drain line attached to it but I will have to post pics for all to see and start telling me what I acctually got here. LOL.

Ok this skimmer is a older recirculating type of skimmer with octopus pump and swc body. This is what I found out:

They are made by the same company in China, ReefOctopus.SWC/Saltwater Connections is the distributor for Canada and tagged theskimmer with his name. CoralVue is the USA distriutor for USA.

I was a dealer for a good while and have spoken to the manufacturer in China, the USA distributor and the Canada distributor.

They are the sameskimmers with a different name attached to them.

EDIT - JAYSON would know first hand.

I nailed this skimmer down I think. 2009 model SWC with a octapus pump model OTP2000. SWC 150 DNW. Rated to 185 gal.

Exclamation Re: 72 gal. Oceanic bow front maybe too cheap to pass on.

I am almost through with the bulk of the clean up and will take pics today and post later. I keep finding stuff tucked away here and there. A refractometer that is in need of cleanup was in the RO s trash can setup. It was in a case but had heavy salt deposits and corrosion on it . I will try to clean it up. A large Turbelle 1600 wave pump looks to be in good shape as do the smaller magnetic mount 860 current pums that have HDOR I think labels and a small floating glass thermometer. One small power head that I think is a supply or return for the refuge has the back off the sealed case. I imagine it is not safe to operate and if I set up the refuge I will replace it. Pics coming soon!
