Also, the beach where I live has no runoff and sustains a large reef about 1 mile offshore. Could i just use nsw even if i may want to keep SPS one day?

Got ya. Not many people can just put stuff inthe tank and leave it alone. Everyone wants it to be right now. If thats the case, then Use SeaChem, or GFO. But contrary to befief, you have to watch this stuff also, it will not last like 6 months as listed, not at first anyways. You should see your levels come down in 24hrs, if you don't then you need to change the media and test again in 24hrs.

this hobby is so expensive . Even though I am doing it cheap. $200 for tank, stand, and $600 for everything else, and then the lights! ayeeeeee. oh the lighting, can i just put the damn thing outside? (kidding)
