    EcoTech Marine Vortech MP40W-ES

Has anyone here have experience with the EcoTech Marine Vortech MP40W-ES? I am thinking about buying 2 of them for opposite ends of my 100 gallon rimless reef aquarium. Does the MP40W-ES really work like everybody is saying? Have you ever had to replace your Vortech MP40W-ES? Is it a long-term power head PERFECT for all coral and fish? Will it last over a course of 5 years? Did they come out with a newer, BETTER model of MP40W-ES? All the videos and reviews I have read were made back in 2010, and I am not sure if they came out with a better model of the item. If they did, what is the newest model called? What do I have to look for when I get the power head to know that it is the newest model? and what did they add/adjust in the newer model of the MP40W-ES?

    Hello

I am running one ecotech mp40 in my 125 I love it I have had it about 6 months. The different preset modes are excellent I would love to have one more. Also I believe the one you are looking at is the newest version. With the wireless you can set them on a slave / master where the communicate. Nice very nice price is high. Might be able to do something the same with less money. I also seen the ecotech is coming out with a bada$$ LED system that is also wireless and communicates with pumps and lights to simulate different times of days and storms. Pretty expensive but excellent built and impressive use of technology.

I would buy a couple mp40's in a heartbeat but that is where the wifey (and to some extent, myself) draws the line. They are some serious hardware with a price tag to match. For the most part those who own them, love them and those who don't own them, wish they did.

    Re: EcoTech Marine Vortech MP40W-ES

I have the littler one - the MP10 - for my 29 gallon. It is a really great device. I have owned it for about 4 months now and have never had an issue yet (knock wood). The presets are pretty useful too but when you come right down to it I think you would stick with one or two to create consistency. A majority of the time, I will run in reef crest mode which simulates the ebb and flow of a reef. The corals respond really well and I like the action it creates when agitating the top of my tank. The other mode I run is nutrient transport which provides a nice balance of pulsing action with some aggressive left / right action. This is definitely my choice of modes when I need to stir up detritus or before a water change. Other than that it pretty much is what it is. The pump has a he'll of a price and I am not sure what I could compete it to at that level. I have a few of the maxi jet pros which are like a fourth the cost and I am not sure they even come close to performance. They are currently agitating the water in my brute garbage can and double as a lifter for water changes. All in all, i will probably add another mp10 to my next build. Hope that helps.
