Is it ok to clean and reuse a filter sock

Is it ok to wash(with hot water) a filter sock that is used in a sump tank and reuse it?

I've heard some people say that they wash theirs in the washer with bleach and hot water...is that ok?

I wouldn't, you kill the bacteria growing in it. I know you want the junk out of it, but if you rinse it ina small bucket using tank water, you don't kill the bacteria, and a filter sock can carry quite a bit of it.
    Jmo though.

But whats the difference between killing the bacteria(with bleach) and just replacing the filter sock? Either way the bacteria(good or bad) will be gone. I understand how good bacteria may form but most people say to replace it about once a week.

Well, I don't think by just rinsing it out that it kills everything. When I take mine outside and hit it with the hose, it grows the little feather dusters right back, day or so. So, if you want to totally keep all the bacteria then use some of you tanks water in a 5 gallon bucket, rinse it that way and you kill nothing. But I would not use chemicals.

Speaking on the subject of chemicals...wouldn't rinsing it with a garden hose(tap water) get chlorine in the filter sock???

I've done it this way for years too with no problems.....except from my wife about the washing machine smelling like the ocean afterwards!
