    Overflow suggestions

    Hello everybody,
I am currently in the planning stage of a 90g reef tank and was curious as to the advantages and disadvantages of a built in overflow box. More specifically between holes drilled in the bottom of the tank or in the side of the tank. Is there one that is better than the other or should it really be based off of the setup of your sump and your stand?

Reef Ready tanks are by far the best. The holes drilled into the bottom of the tank give you the peace of mind knowing that no mattter what, its fail safe, your sump will not overflow. your tank relys entirely on your return pump to get the water back to the tank for stable water level. The Hang On Back Overflows are iffy, and even with an Aqua Lifter Pump attached to the Overflow, if that pump does not start up after a power outage, then you can get an overflow. The Bean Animal Overflow is one of the best our there, using holes in the back of the tank. Herby Overflow is second. And a few like these work well also. Your pick, but for the money and peace of mind, RR, Reef Ready tanks are the best.

Yeah reef ready tanks seem to be the way to go. Those designs are very informative and helpful, so thank you I was looking at the Eheim compact 5000 as a return pump to the display tank, would you agree with this decision or recommend another one?

I have the Quite One 2200 on a 72 bow front and it is running wide open and sump staying level with 4 ft of head pressure. It is very quite and I am happy with it.
