natural wave for cheap

I can get a natural wave pump timer for $55 at my lfs. Now according to aquarium systems website thats half price. HAs anyone heard anything about this wavemaker? I notice that no online places sell it so I am suspicious of its reputation. I know its only good for 3 powerheads but I figure one powerhead can be on constantly or I can buy a cheap timer. Maybe I can get a better deal at MACNA next month?

thanks
Andrew

Hi there. I have one and use it with Maxijet ph's. It works great for me! I, too, got mine for cheap. HTH

I agree, I went out and bought it on saturday and I love it. I only have 2 powerheads right now but it is working great. I have noticed some electric current in my tank, not all the time just sometimes, I dont think its the natural wave though.

If you have current in your tank, I would venture to bet it is one of the ph's leaking current or perhaps a heater if you have one in there. In either, get a grounding probe asap to protect both you and the tank inhabitants. HTH

i bought one for around 25$ i tried it out, in my sink, and it seems to work. i dont know if i got a defective one but the cycle sequence information on the box was wrong. mine said 1 and 3 ran opposite and 2 was double cycle. but it ran 1 and 2 opposite and 3 was double cycle. HTH

thanks, joanne. That makes sense, as the electrical current is random, and the powerheads come on random. I will get a grounding probe next time I'm at the lfs, probably saturday. Are all grounding probes the same? If I can get my dad to make one, then I'll wait till MACNA since I'm sure to get a better deal there than at my lfs.

tony, $25? Damn thats cheap. I though $55 was a steal. Was it used or something?

Thanks
Andrew

I've seen two different types of grounding probes. One with a plug you insert into an actual outlet and a second with a little thingy (real technical I know ) that you ground to a bolt or something metal. The second kind is the ones I have. I've seen no problems with it. Don't really know the difference. HTH

Chromis,

If you can find one, I would recommend using a ground probe with the plug-in end vs the kind that attaches to a screw or bolt on your outlet cover.

The plug kind ensures a good ground as it uses the third prong in a standard three prong plug to ground itself.

The kind that attaches to a screw or bolt assumes that your outlet box (part inside the wall) is metal and that it is grounded. In many homes, especially newer ones the outlet boxes are plastic so this isn't really providng a ground-point.

HTH,

Andrew

i lied, it was 30$ brand new, i dug out receipt for it,(ebay).

and on the grounding rod, definitely the plug version which will provide better contact. thats also assuming someone wired the ground to the plug. i have seen lots of outlets where the ground was left open..

HTH
