Hi sher!
A MAG 18 will be too much for 1 3/4" Sea Swirl. The recommended flow is 850gph through the 3/4". If you want 1 SS, go with a MAG 9. If you use a MAG 18, use 2 SS's.

sher,
If you already have the mag 18 why done you split the returns. One can go to the SS and the other to a spray bar.... |

Hello
MagDrive 1800gph Water Pump 115 Volt 60 Hz 145 Watts - 1.5 amps 1350gpd at 4 feet too much MagDrive 1200gph Water Pump 115 Volt 60 Hz 110 Watts - 1.6 amps 1100gpd at 4 feet too much I'm Guessing too much flow, dont know from experience. HTH tony maybe someone else might know how much you can throttle it down and not over work the pump. or maybe, i'm just guessing here but you could add a couple of 90degree elbows to add some more head? Mag 12 w/6' head 950 gph w/7' head 810 gph. i have no idea as far as what effect or to what extent you can add additional head. im sure some one knows though. good luck tony Last edited by tmncali; 08-10-2001 at 05:16 AM. |

tmncali, thinks for the info.
golfish, i have the 3/4ss already. im using a rio 3100(i know they suck) to push it. its sitting in the tank and giving the tank too much heat + the nice weather , it killing my tank. so i might have to try a mag 950.

I don't see why you can't use the mag 12 and a ball valve (probably don't even need the ball valve). You can only put so much water though a 3-4" Sea swirls, 850 gph to be exact. You should be fine using a Mag 12 with a 3/4" SS. I would still use ball valves on each side of the pump just to make it easy to service.....

golfish,
im new but did you mean unions? one each side of pump. just in case i brought it up. and is that a possibility of just letting the 3/4 SS do the flow control? the pump will pump and the SS will only allow as much through as it can, therefore acting as a gate valve reducing flow? HTH tony |

Tony,
Good catch..Silly me, I'm think ever pump is like the Amp Master. What I should have said was the ball valves that have unions. As to your second question. That's kind of what I was hinting at. You still want the ball valves to be able to service the pump. |
