IMO the best for the money is a Tunze. I own 2 and there work very well. They are not as expensive as some of the others but do the job for 1/3 the price

I used the Tunze (25.00) on my tank for a few months but it kept falling off. Its a good magnet for the price but the Magnavore VI (150.00) I have now blows it away. Its bigger and NEVER falls off. You gotta use some elbow grease to move this puppy around on 1/2" glass.

I have a tunze and then bought a magnavore...woohooo this magnet is awsome. It gets even incrusted coralline algae. Wish I had bought it sooner. It is expensive, but IMO worth it.

With the Tunze you gotta make sure you get the right one for the job or it will fall off They are sized by thickness of glass. I have the smaller one on my 20 and the appropriate one for my 168g. I used to have the link for the place I ordered mine, but have lost it. I know Ninong has that link, he was the one who refered me.

Here is the link that Ltspd asked me to post: http://www.aquatekfish.com/magnets.php3

Here is another source: http://www.reefland.com/cgi-bin/miva...egory_Code=MAG

The Tunze magnets are excellent. The Magnavore VI is a better magnet that costs 6 times as much. So, if money is no object, get a Magnavore.

you see that the 25.00 Tunze says it handle up to .7" glass. That's if you don't move it Then look at the price on the next size up.

Paul,
Are you saying it doesn't fall? I got real tired of fishing mine out of the tank so I moved it to the junk drawer. I can tell you that it doesn't compare to the Magnavore VI, you can see that the next size up on the Tunze is 125.00. That's a big step.Tunze seems to rate their magnets like most skimmer companys rate their skimmers I think the 25.00 Tunze magnet is a good magnet for tanks less then 1/2" glass and for 25.00 it did an OK job on my tank but no way it would remove the coralline algae. After all, The topic is "whats the BEST magnet"

Ouch!

Has anyone beside me ever accidentally gotten their fingers snapped between the two halves?

Whatever you do, don't put one half in each pocket of your pants!

That is correct, It will not fall unless you try and go the wrong direction of the magnets. The Tunze have directions on them as to which way to push it. Mine has yet to fall off when used as directed. I cant say it will get all the coraline off, but then a .10 razor blade does a better job anyway. Like I said, in a hobby thats already extremely expensive, I took the 125 diffrence and put it towards other items.

Please also look back up at my first post.

Paul,
Your sure entitled to your opinion and I do agree that the 25.00 Tunze is a good magnet, but for me it was a waste of money. It didn't matter which way I pushed the Tunze it still fell off. Maybe my glass is a little denser then yours or maybe my algea was a little more slippery

I kinda knew the Tunze wasn't going to cut it before I put it in the tank. I've never seen a magnet with a string tied to it....

I took the time that I saved fishing the magent out of the tank and cleaning the coralline off the glass playing golf

organicreefer,
Here's were I bought mine http://www.magnavore.com/ If your 120 is 3/8" glass like most of the 120s I have seen here the 25.00 would be a good choice for you. If you like I can send you my Tunze to try out.

I like the mag-float

I just bought this one a few weeks ago but so far I really like it. If it does come lose it floats to the top so you don't have to get your hands in the water much. And the one I got is rated for 125 gal. It cleans very good and yes I did get my finger caught between the magnets when I was trying to pull them apart. They are so strong I still have a small red place on my finger. I paid about 15.00 from Premium Aquatics.

OR, they have the "Mighty Magnets" at aquarium concepts. They are STRONG! Have you tried the one on the 300gal display? Its tough to even move! I believe that MM makes the Magnavore magnets as well. Not cheap, but will scrape the heck out of a tank in no time.

I bought a Mag Float recently and am very happy with it. This baby is strong and does a great job. As stated, when you are done, you separate the halves and the tank half floats to the top and you just pull it out. My lfs has begun using them on his tanks. They come in three (I think) different sizes. JWT
