Iwaki pumps amer or japan motor?

What is the real difference between the american made and the japan motor ones.
I really dont want to spend the extra 110 bills for the japan ones unless there is a really good diff.

Do they run cooler, quiter or what.

Good question. Other than some blanket statement that the Japanese is better (kinda like they say with cars), I never heard any convinding reason why.

I can tell you that I have an American made one (the 40RLT) and I feel it is the quietest, most realible pump I've ever had.

I don't think you can go wrong whichever one you buy.

The Japanese motors are reportedly quieter and more reliable than the American motors. Where did you get a figure of $110 difference between American and Japanese motors???? For example, Marine Depot sells the MD40RLXT for $199 (Japanese motor) and the WMD40RLXT (American motor) for $160. That's a $39 difference.

The $110 is the difference for 2 pumps sorry didnt say that.
WMD30rlxt $130 -- MD30rlxt $168=$38
wmd40rlt $140 -- MD40rlt $208=$68
One for a sump and the other for a ocean clear filter.

Do the iwaspumps get very hot and transfer heat.
I have a velocity 1200 that gets pretty warm and transfers more heat than I like.

I have the Iwaki WMD40rlxt as my return pump for my 125. It gives off very little heat IMO. The fan is kinda loud but I can live with it. Its the american model. I needed to save a few bucks at the time and it has performed flawless so far. I would recomend it. Although I have never owned the Jap model as of yet.

I have the Japanese 40RLT, 55RLT and 70RLT. All 3 have been flawless and quiet. They also don't get hot, just slightly warm. The only issue I have is they don't make the power cords that long.

Sounds good then I will get they. With the acrylic tank working like insulation the less heat the better.

I don't personally own one of their larger pumps. I have an MD-10 that I have used for refugium plumbing. At any rate what I have heard is that people who run the american motors don't have any more problems that those running Japanese. People that own both say the Japanese is quieter. Rumor has it the Japanese also run cooler, but I haven't seen any proof of this other than people who own both doing hand temperature tests and describing which feels hotter.
